Sizzling Hot

★★★★☆ 4.3 Editor rating

Sizzling Hot is one of those pick-up games that looks simple and then quietly eats an afternoon. You match rows of shiny fruit icons across a grid, and the whole thing is built around speed and reading the board fast. The art is loud in a good way — everything glows and pops, and the little chime when a row clears is weirdly satisfying.

The controls are the star here. Everything is a single tap or a short drag, so you can play it comfortably with one hand while standing on a train. We ran it through the settings menu and there's a proper option to cap the frame rate, which kept our test phone from getting warm during longer sessions. Battery drain was gentle compared to most arcade titles we test.

It won't reinvent your idea of what a phone game can be, but as a quick, cheerful timewaster it does exactly what it sets out to do. The difficulty ramps sensibly and the short rounds make it easy to stop — or, more often, tap 'one more go'.
