Which Mobile Genres Actually Drain Your Battery
We've charted battery use across dozens of games, and the pattern is clear once you see it. Anything with constant 3D rendering and high frame rates — racers, action RPGs — eats power fast. Turn-based strategy and text-heavy adventures barely register.
The trick is that most games hand you the controls to fix this. Frame-rate caps, resolution scaling, and low-power modes are buried in settings menus, and turning them on often costs you almost nothing visually.
Heat matters too. A hot phone throttles itself, so a game that overheats your device actually plays worse over time. We flag heat in every review for exactly this reason.
If your battery anxiety is real, lean toward strategy, sims, and quiet adventures for long trips, and save the graphical showpieces for when you're near a charger.
